Production / SFX Consultation / Casting
Independent Film | The Brighton Miracle | 2019
The Brighton Miracle is an independent film, made by and for those that love the game of rugby. In 2015, Japan shocked the world by beating the South African team, breaking the way forward for Japan to be taken seriously in the sport.
Max Mannix had come to Japan to scout locations, actors and garner help. As soon as I read the script, I was in. When Max told me Temuera Morrison was set to play Eddie Jones, I basically signed in blood. I was like, “you know that’s Jango, Rex AND Cody, right??”
Max said, “Who”?
The movie was to be shot half in Australia, half in Japan.
Long before we were ever sure the movie would be made (well, Max always knew), Max and I talked over the logistics of using lidar scans of the Brighton stadium, crowd simulation, and casting for a whole rugby team. Via a few degrees from Kevin Bacon, I happened to know two of the original players, but we couldn’t use them. We decided to use original footage of the game intercut with the movie. Our crew handled the production and casting for the Japanese part of the shoot as well as some of the pre-viz.
